Last May 23rd and 24th, an international conference on best practices for mitigating the risks of electrocution and collision in power lines was held in Cagliari, on the island of Sardinia, Italy. The conference was organized within the framework of the Life LIFE Safe for Vultures Project and brought together a significant number of experts from Europe who exchanged results and experiences in order to advance the best prevention systems and methods to ensure a safe power grid for birds. This has become a growing concern in recent times, as one of the consequences of renewable energy development is the deployment of new power lines, whose potential impact must be prioritized in terms of prevention and mitigation. The conference featured the recent manual published by IUCN, titled “Wildlife and Power Lines,” as well as online training courses (in English and French) and the specifically designed app for working with power lines, e-faunalert. The results, once published, will be disseminated on this website.
